About

I’m a freelance journalist and book critic in New York. My book Terms of Service: Social Media and the Price of Constant Connection is now out from HarperCollins. (You can read excerpts in The Guardian, Salon, and the Washington Post.) My work has appeared in the New York Times, Slate, the Los Angeles Times, Bookforum, The New Republic, Politico, and many other publications. I write regularly for The Baffler, where I’m a contributing editor. I’m also on the board of Deep Vellum, a new publisher of international literature. In April 2012, I was a three-day Jeopardy! champion, which means my life is likely downhill from there.
If you want to contact me, try jacobsilverman [at] gmail [dot] com. I’m glad to receive books for possible review, but please note that I can’t always respond to such emails.
For book projects and other matters, I’m represented by Lauren Smythe of Inkwell Management.
